3 Tips to Reduce Calibration Turnaround Times

How clients can help create a more efficient turnaround process from PCI

Article written by FCX Performance, Inc

We all know the old saying, “time is money.” When your instruments are not functioning properly, you risk significant costs and delays in production. Calibration turnaround time is crucial when you have limited instruments available and tight production timelines. Here are three tips to get accurate quotes quicker and decrease your calibration turnaround times.

PRINT AND PACK QUOTE/PURCHASE ORDER WITH EQUIPMENT

Depending on your operational parameters, your equipment can be specifically designed to your exact needs, ranges and tolerances. Identifying your calibration requirements ahead of time can allow a more accurate quote. Work with your metrology lab customer support representative to identify repairs, calibration periodicity, calibration ranges and tolerances during the quote process.

Enclose a copy of your quote with your equipment when shipping to be quickly identified as the client and ensure all requirements are met during the calibration process. Additionally, include a copy of your purchase order (PO) to streamline the communication process between your instrument’s ship date and return date.

LIST OF SPECIAL REQUESTS

We are all human and special requests can be missed during the quote process. Add a list of special requests with your equipment on the PO to ensure that your calibration needs are met. This way the manufacturer’s specifications, specific range tolerances and expedited turnaround times that were not discussed in the quoting process can be handled properly.

CAREFULLY PACK YOUR EQUIPMENT

Now it’s time to pack and ship your equipment. Adequately packing your instrument is essential for a smooth calibration. During transportation your instruments can shift, so make sure they are packed snugly to prevent damage. The customer support team will inspect your equipment, document accessories or damage, and contact you if repairs are needed. Please note any existing damage, such as missing feet, dents, etc. that do not affect the equipment operation on your PO so that these things don’t cause unnecessary delays in your calibration. A few minutes before shipment can save hours and even days on your instrument turnaround time.
