Conductive vs. Standard PTFE Hose

Conductive vs. Standard PTFE Hose

Ensure plant and worker safety when selecting a hose for flammable liquids

Article written by FCX Performance, Inc

Pharmaceutical, chemical, paint and other types of plants utilize PTFE hoses in their operations, but what’s the difference between standard and conductive PTFE hoses? There's a big difference, especially if you want to avoid the buildup of static electricity that can lead to an explosion if flammable liquids are being transferred. Chemical compatibility and meeting the required safety standards are important to consider when selecting the right hose.

Use standard PTFE hoses for non-flammable operations

Standard PTFE-lined hoses work best for operations that transfer non-flammable, corrosive and chemical media. The Teflon™ PTFE liner helps prevent the corrosive media from damaging the hose through chemical attack, allowing a smooth transfer while maintaining a safe operation.

Use conductive, anti-static PTFE hoses for flammable operations

Conductive (Anti-static) PTFE-lined hoses work best for operations dealing with flammable fluid. The conductive lining helps ground the hose while the flammable fluid is flowing to prevent static electricity from building up, causing a spark or potentially creating an explosion. Anti-static hoses must meet certain regulatory standards such as: FDA 21 CFR 177.1550, USP XXXVI Class VI, ISO 10993 Sections 5,10,11:2009, European Reglement 1935/2004/CE, European Reglement 10/2011/CE, 3A Sanitary Standard Class II and Phthalates Free-1907/2006/CE REACH. These standards help ensure your employees and your operation stay safe.

FCX offers Crane Resistoflex anti-static, dissipative hoses to meet your needs in flammable environments
